Ruochen Bo

PhD Student

Ruochen is a second year PhD student in Cinema Studies at the University of Toronto. She received her BA in Liberal Arts from St. John's College, NM, and her MA in Comparative Literature from the University of New Mexico. Her MA thesis brings back the relevance of Plato’ Cave Allegory into cinema studies and film philosophy, and examines Edward Yang’s cinematic texts in exploration of the relationship between film language and thought, image and knowledge. She is devoted to thinking about the “ancient quarrel between philosophy and poetry” in the modern context, especially through engaging with Art Cinema and New Waves in World Cinema.
