2018

Justin Morris, a member of the very first Ph.D. cohort at the Cinema Studies Institute, is the 2018 recipient of the Vivienne Poy Chancellor's Fellowship in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Justin won the $25,000 prize for his Doctoral research on the zones of intermedial interconnectivity and consuming practices engendered by popular American serialized media from the 1940s through to the 1960s. His focus is not just on the Hollywood film series and serials of the period, but encompasses disparate media such as radio, newspaper comic strips, television, and consumer products. Justin has shared his knowledge with Cinema Studies Institute undergraduate students through teaching CIN340H1 - Seriality in Fall 2016 and Fall 2017.

"It is a great honour to be awarded the Vivienne Poy Chancellor’s Fellowship in the Humanities and Social Sciences," said Justin. "It is incredibly humbling to be considered for an award named for such a trailblazing and influential Canadian. I can only hope to achieve a fraction of Dr. Poy’s contributions to public life and the study of history."
