Müge Turan

Müge Turan is a PhD candidate in Cinema Studies at the University of Toronto. As a writer, film critic and film curator, her love affair with cinema has evolved throughout the intertwined pursuit of academic study, criticism and curation. Her MA thesis, which was published as From Forbidden Planet To Solaris: Tracing Speculative Film (2012), sought to define what she called ‘speculative film’ by reading science fiction cinema through the lens of psychoanalysis. In 2014, Müge co curated the research exhibition ‘One Hundred Years of Love: The Affair Between Film and Audience in Turkey.’ Her interest in cinematic sound with a specific focus on national cinema led her to embark on a doctoral thesis on the five-decade-long history of dubbing or post-synchronization in Turkish popular cinema.
