Su Baloglu

PhD Student

Biography

Su is a filmmaker and researcher whose work explores the intersections of personal archives, memory, and history. She holds a BA in Film Studies from Carleton University and an MA in Film Production from Istanbul. Currently a PhD candidate at the Cinema Studies Institute at the University of Toronto, her dissertation examines home movies as mediated personal histories, situating the domestic archive as a site for counter-narratives to dominant historiographies. Drawing on theories of the everyday, interpretive autoethnography, and the phenomenology of spectatorship, her research and creative practice investigate how domestic visual archives complicate and contest official narratives of cultural and political history.
