CINSSU Academic Seminar: Diana Sanchez - "Contemporary World Cinema - Views from a Film Festival Professional"

As an international film programmer and now as Senior Director of Film at TIFF, I've had the opportunity to engage with international cinema beyond Hollywood and Western Europe and have made a career of promoting and presenting those cinemas. I've had the opportunity to witness firsthand the nascence of "new" film movements, like "el nuevo cine argentino" (The New Argentine Cinema). My experience in graduate school though, was seminal to increasing my understanding and engagement with the cinemas and the filmmakers from the regions that I program. This talk will focus on the intersection of industry activity and scholarly engagement and how these two underpin my current understanding and teaching of cinema at CSI.
