Description
On the occasion of the exhibition of Isaac Julien‘s celebrated 10-screen installation, Lessons of the Hour, Film Quarterly is pleased to collaborate with San Francisco's McEvoy Foundation for the Arts on a special webinar to mark this meditation on Frederick Douglass and his times. Film Quarterly editor B. Ruby Rich moderates a discussion of the artist's genre-breaking and immersive work with Kass Banning, lecturer in the Cinema Studies Institute at the University of Toronto, Warren Crichlow, associate professor at York University, Toronto, and artist Isaac Julien, CBE.
Banning and Crichlow's article, “A Grand Panorama: Isaac Julien, Frederick Douglass, and Lessons of the Hour,” appeared in Film Quarterly, Vol. 73, No.4.
